Whether you’re visiting theme parks in the United States such as Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure, Disneys Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Epcot, or Hollywood Studios. Seaworld, Funspot, or water parks such as Volcano Bay, Aquatica, Discovery Cove, Typhoon Lagoon, or Blizzard Beach.

Or whether you visit theme parks in the United Kingdom or Europe, such as Alton Towers, Chessington, Thorpe Park, Blackpool Pleasure Beach, Disneyland Paris, Siam Park water Kingdom etc.

Visiting these parks is fun for all the family with mixtures of rides, walks, gardens, shows, exhibits, eateries, etc. They cater for the very youngest to the very oldest ( Grandma’s & Grandads welcome ) most people at some point in their lives will have been to a theme park or a waterpark. They are always greeted at the main entrance by the staff with big smiles and welcoming voices, once through each ride or attraction you go on there is an operator with whom you interact with, no doubt saying “hello” as well as talking about the ride or just general interaction, same goes for shows you might see, same level of conversation with people showing you to seats, selling programs etc. full conversations when purchasing drinks, snacks or meals saying “hello” asking servers “how are you?” we do this as a matter of course, we are polite, we interact, we talk, we ask questions we treat them how we’d like to be treated, correct? If i asked you honestly how many of you have ever spoken to an employee emptying the garbage? or got into a conversation with someone clearing a table? Or been polite with someone sweeping walkways etc? could you honestly say you have had the same interaction? I’m guessing this is a huge NO!
Silent Yet Immensley Important
The garbage collector, the gardners, the locker room attendants, the table clearers, the oil covered engineers, the sweeper’s, security staff, the list goes on and on of the silent rolls within the parks we enjoy every year with our families and friends.
Lets face it without theses essential personel working quietly in their roll, we simply do not have theme parks period, they are the critical elements that keep all the places we love open and operating, very often they are the absolute lowest paid and regarded (apart from engineers), yet they do their individual jobs so diligentley it staggers belief, they are so key critical yet we take for granted without so much as a thank you or a hello!
Imagine going to Universal Studios in Florida or Alton Towers in the UK, lets imagine nobody removing the garbage! imaging the vermin concerns it would raise as well as the serious health implications surrounding such waste building up, lets imagine when you walk in there are no security staff checking what people are bringing in, anything goes weapons maybe, alcohol or any other items that could cause harm or distress to you and your family, imagine no gardners kepping the place looking amazing, instead just an overgrown disgusting mess, if your in a waterpark imagine nobody helping you in the locker rooms, instead just an unruly free for all, nobody keeping the walkways slip free so when you walk your not hurting yourself, imagine engineers not working around the clock keeping the roller coasters we love in tip top shape, instead leaving them to simply manage, until eventually they fly off the track, or the waterpark sanitation is so rife its a disease soup. Now you see the astounding importance of the people we walk past without so much as a “Hello” or a simple “How are you?” do they not deserve that? research has proven that a simple hello or a brief interest in someone can boost their morale by over 66%, its so easy to do and takes seconds.
Stop For A Second And Think In Future
I was recently in Florida and visited Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure, SeaWorld and Discovery Cove, everywhere I went I said “Hi” to these forgotten people, I met some amazing people who were so grateful of a moments interaction it was humbling really was, i met toilet staff who engaged in cinversation telling me they are working so they can get through college, a lady clearing tables at Volcano Bay was working three jobs to support her three children, I sat with a gardener and complimented him on how amazing Islands of Adventure looked, he said I was the first park goer who had actually sat and spoke to him in 6 months, I made conversations everywhere because I can, it cost me nothing whatsoever, just a little time and consideration thats all, nothing else. JUST TIME.
I hope maybe in future you might just stop and say hello, these are real people with real lives, as the actor Tom Hardy once quoted “I treat the janitor with the same respect as the movie producer” it costs nothing and means everything to the person who isnt being ignored, remember without these people doing what they do you have no water parks, no theme parks, no restaurants, no shopping malls etc. they are essential to your enjoyment just without the bells and whistles, be nice be respectful but overall be polite, you’ll not be disappointed
